You, your dog, and your trainer — working together in the real environments where it matters. No group distractions, no one-size-fits-all approach. Just a programme built entirely around your dog.
Private training is the most direct path to change. Instead of working in a group with dozens of distractions, every minute of the session is focused entirely on your dog, your dynamic, and your specific challenges.
We come to you — whether that's your home, your local park, the street where your dog reacts, or anywhere else the real work needs to happen. Because training in a clinical environment doesn't always translate to the real world.
You're an active part of every session. The goal isn't just to train your dog — it's to give you the skills and understanding to maintain and build on that progress long after we're done.
Your first session starts with a proper conversation — your dog's history, what you've tried, what's working, and what isn't. We observe how your dog moves, responds, and communicates before any training begins. This shapes everything that follows.
Based on the assessment, we build a structured plan specific to your dog's drives, thresholds, and learning style. You'll know exactly what we're working on, why, and what progress looks like — no guesswork.
Each session we train your dog and coach you simultaneously. You're not watching from the sidelines — you're learning to handle, read, and communicate with your dog in real time. That's what makes results last.
After each session you'll receive a written summary of what was covered, what to practise, and what to focus on before the next session. Clear, practical, and something you can refer back to.
Questions come up between sessions — that's normal. You'll have access to message support between appointments so you're never left stuck or second-guessing what to do.
Training fades without consistency. We build habits — in you and your dog — that hold up in the real world. Because the goal isn't a well-behaved dog in front of a trainer. It's a well-behaved dog every day.
All sessions are 60 minutes and conducted at your preferred location within Newcastle & Lake Macquarie. Packages never expire — use them at a pace that suits you.
Newcastle Canine Training uses a mixed-method approach grounded in behavioural science and the NePoPo (Negative Positive Positive) methodology developed by Bart and Michael Bellon — one of the most effective frameworks for building genuine drive, focus, and reliability in dogs.
We don't subscribe to a single rigid school of thought. Dogs are individuals. What works brilliantly for one may not work for another. The trainer's job is to read the dog in front of them and apply the right tools — not force a method that doesn't fit.
Every recommendation we make is built on understanding what's actually driving your dog's behaviour — not just suppressing it.
"Booked in for the Starter Pack not really knowing what to expect. By session three our dog was walking on a loose lead for the first time in two years. Can't believe we waited so long."
"The sessions are completely focused on your dog's specific issues — nothing generic about it. Worth every cent. Our boy is unrecognisable on lead."
"Nathan explained the why behind everything which made it actually stick. We're not just following steps, we understand what we're doing now. Big difference."
